Tools
Tools are available for use by all students but if you want your own, you can purchas a started pack from Studio B. A small set of pottery tools is available through the studio for $15.00. This starter pack includes: 1 Sponge – used for dampening, cleaning, smoothing clay and when throwing on the wheel to absorb water. 1 metal rib – used for scraping and smoothing 1 needle tool – used for piercing air holes, cutting shapes and forms, making designs, determining the thickness of the clay and many other things 1 wire cutter – used to cut clay from the brick of clay and from the bats used on wheel. 1 wooden rib - used to smooth and shape the clay 2 trimming tools – used to trim the thickness of the clay in hand-building and on the wheel. Also used for designs. 1 wooden boxwood tool – used for modeling and sculpture. Similar tool kits can be found at hobby lobby, Michaels, and other hobby or gallery locations, as well as on line. These tools do get broken and often get tossed in the trash by mistake. Students are asked to purchase their own starting tool kit and to keep track of their tools. |
